WHY
TORPLEX?
The name is derived from the areas the ride visits, it starts in the
TORbay area and also passes through PLymouth
and EXeter - hence
TORPLEX
The event normally attracts around 30 riders,
most finish between 5pm and 6pm, the last ones are usually home around
9pm, the cut off being 9.20pm - hence you must carry working lights
for this event in case you are late finishing.
Mudguards
and helmets are optional - this is a ride for experienced
cyclists, and you are expected to be mainly self sufficient on
the ride. Your route sheet will be comprehensive but you should
use it in conjunction with an Ordnance Survey map. Checkpoints
and controls along the route are there to make sure that you complete
the course - it's not a race there are no awards for the
first back - finishing in good time and in one piece is the objective.
You receive a Brevet Card at the start which is stamped as you
pass controls, - the final completion stamp is at the finish,
your time is recorded, and we retain the card for validation by
AUK, and send it back to you later with relevant medal.
The ride carries points for AUK
championships, and also has 0.5 altitude points. Visit the Audax
main website to learn about all the various
awards
and medals available.
